Come and lend a helping hand to your local hedges!
Bore Place and the Eden Valley Farm Cluster are working together to help nature thrive. Hedgerows are a critical part of the picture, reducing soil erosion, storing carbon and providing much-needed habitat for wildlife.
We are looking for volunteers to join us on a landscape-scale hedge survey! With your help, we are aiming to assess the condition of hedges across the nine farms in the Eden Valley Farm Cluster, so that we can create a management plan and make sure our hedges are taken care of. We will be using the PTES Healthy Hedgerows survey, which is based on pictures and is straightforward to understand, so all the family is encouraged to join in. You can watch this short YouTube video to get an idea of the process.
What will the day look like?
We'll start at Bore Place and hear all about hedges from the People’s Trust for Endangered Species’ Key Habitats Officer, Megan Gimber (from the YouTube video!), and meet some farmers from the Eden Valley Farm Cluster. As a thank you for your time, there will be a light lunch featuring local produce from the farms, for everyone taking part.
After lunch, you'll head out to your allocated farm to conduct your 1-, 2- or 3-hour survey, depending on your choice. All farms will be within approx. 10 minute drive of Bore Place.
