Bore Place Accommodation

Bore Place is situated on a private 500-acre organically managed estate in rolling Kent countryside. It is the ideal spot to get away from it all and disconnect and rejuvenate. It is only a short drive from the pretty towns of Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells and an hour from London, yet it is a haven of peace and stillness that feels a world away from the hectic pace of day to day life.

Bore Place is a non-profit organisation that believes in a world where people and the natural world work together to regenerate the environment and ourselves. You can find out more about our wider work here.

We offer a choice of 5 self-catering eco-friendly properties sleeping 2-30.

Properties

The Bore Place estate can accommodate up to 30 people single occupancy or 50-60 sharing rooms. Most retreats choose to take one of our larger properties as well as the Large Barn with sometimes cottages as well. You can choose whether your event is self-catered or whether we provide food for you. All of the accommodation is very comfortable with an outlook on to the Bore Place gardens. 7 of our bedrooms have private bathrooms, the others share (approx. 2-3 rooms to a bathroom).

Things to do

Walking

There is fantastic walking – including four mapped and signed walks from the door The Bore Place Walks. Explore The Greensand Way, Bough Beech reservoir and Toys Hill and enjoy classic Kent countryside.

Pick Your Own

Kent is the garden of England and in the summer months there are plenty of opportunities to visit traditional farms and pick local fruit, nuts and vegetables.

Wildlife spotting

As we are an organic estate, we have an abundance of wildlife living at Bore Place. At certain times of the year, we organise bat walks which you are welcome to book on to as we have a large bat population. Other commonly spotted species here include badger, hare, deer (including an elusive white deer), newts, rabbits, owls, birds of prey and field mice. We make a great place to bird watch, being only a short walk away from Bough Beech Reservoir which is known as a good spot to see great crested grebe and kingfisher as well as other regular waders and wildfowl. It’s also famous for its migrating ospreys in spring and autumn.

Biking

There is also excellent biking on offer. You can find mapped routes here. You can also arrange to hire bikes from countrybike.co.uk who will deliver them to you on-site.

Stargazing

With very little light pollution, Bore Place is a perfect place to stargaze and watch the night skies. At certain times of the year, we run astronomy workshops but even without astronomy knowledge, on a clear night, there is plenty to enjoy whilst sitting out around a fire pit.

Nature bathing

We are lucky enough to have a big estate that is very quiet and not visited much. Full of woodlands and quiet spots, we invite you to come and get close to nature in your own way. Watch the sunrise or the sunset, listen to the birdsong, watch the trees in the breeze and feel the benefits of time outside escaping from the pressures of modern life.

There is a programme of exciting events that take place across the year at Bore Place from foraging to beekeeping and bread making to bat walks.

Sustainability at Bore Place

Bore Place is a regenerative site, and our farm has been certified organic for over 20 years. We are working towards improving the estate’s biodiversity, reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2030, as well as minimising our energy and water consumption. We generate our own electricity on-site through PV panels and a wind turbine and we are committed to recycling our waste and water. By choosing Bore Place you are contributing towards our wider work as well as minimising the impact of your retreat.

Farm Produce & Places to Eat

Market Garden

We have our own organic market garden growing an abundance of seasonal organic veg. If you would like to arrange to buy produce whilst you are staying with us, we would be more than happy to arrange this.

Cheese

Blackwoods are an artisan cheesemaker who make delicious cheeses on the Bore Place estate. Find out more here. You can arrange to buy the cheeses straight from the door and at weekends there is often a pop-up farm shop in their workshop selling a host of local, delicious produce.

Eating out

There are several pubs close to Bore Place including the Little Brown Jug, The Wheatsheaf and The Greyhound - traditional pubs that all do good food. The Little Brown Jug can be walked to on one of the signed Bore Place walks. Further afield, Kingdom in Penshurst does great food for brunch or lunch and Giacomos in Weald is a well-regarded Italian.

Testimonials

We booked Bore Place for our annual company offsite of 40 employees. Everyone had a fantastic time, the venue was amazing and in a stunning location! Transport was very easy for both those coming from London and people travelling from the continent via Dover. The team at Bore Place was incredibly helpful and tailored the experience to what we needed. We'll definitely be looking to come back next year!

Oli – Director of Tech Start Up, September 2022

Andrea - Wildlife Trust, June 2022

All my colleagues loved their stay at Bore Place thank you very much to you and your staff for all your help in making our Away Day such a success.

FTI Consulting, September 2022

“We have been bringing our group to Bore Place annually for years. The team there, the location and the "magic" of the place have never failed to create a unique and powerful event. The balance of natural beauty, great food and the reality of a functioning farm are a lovely and unique combination which we've been able to tap into for reflection, connection and fun."

BMW Foundation, September 2022

We book Bore Place every year for our staff retreat! We absolutely love the space, which is great for getting us all out in nature and away from our desks in central London. Bore Place House is particularly nice, with a lovely area to sit outside in the summer by the firepit. The staff are always incredibly attentive, helpful, and quick at responding to any queries. The catered lunches and dinner were also delicious (as were the cakes!) and perfectly catered for our specific dietaries. We all came away full and wishing we could stay for longer!

Green Alliance, September 2022

This was our second visit to the wonderful Bore Place, it gets better every time! We are an inner-London youth group supporting young people with disabilities. The staff team were amazingly supportive and on hand to answer any queries. We went on a night walk and had a willow workshop delivered by the amazing John Waller – we even took a bundle back to South London to see if we can build our skills. Thanks, Bore Place we will be back!

Catherine Keevil, Disability Coordinator – Wandsworth Council.

I just wanted to say what a wonderful weekend we had and a massive thank you to you both for making it perfect for us. We had so many wonderful comments from the choir about how amazing Bore House was and the whole site.
