A Living Learning Landscape

Our 25 year strategy

Our 25-year strategy, beginning in 2026, has been co-designed with more than 200 people who know, work with and care about Bore Place. It builds on everything we have learned over our first 50 years and sets out an ambitious direction for the future – putting education at the heart of what we do and using our landscape as a place to learn, experiment and demonstrate how people and nature can thrive together.

About our strategy

At its heart, our new strategy brings together education, land, food, research and community.

Over the next 25 years, we will use Bore Place as a place to learn, test and share practical ways to restore nature, build climate resilience, strengthen local food systems and help people create positive change. By bringing people together to learn from the landscape, from each other and from new ideas, we want to demonstrate what is possible and share what we learn to support wider change.

Our vision - A world where people are inspired and equipped to care for the earth. 

Our Primary Purpose

To inspire and equip people to drive change

Education is, and always has been, at the heart of Bore Place. But we see education in its broadest sense. It's not just what happens on a school visit or in a classroom.  

It's every conversation, every experience, every course, every volunteer session, every visit to the farm, every partnership and every event. Everything we do is an opportunity to inspire people to care for the Earth and to give them the confidence and the practical skills to make a difference. That is our organising purpose, and everything else in the framework supports it.

Strategic Priorities

1) A climate resilient landcape

We want Bore Place to demonstrate how food production, nature recovery and water management can work together as one integrated system in a changing climate. Not as competing priorities, but as complementary ones.

2) To transform local food systems

Food sits at the heart of so many of the challenges we face today—from climate change and biodiversity loss to public health and farming livelihoods. 

We want Bore Place to explore and demonstrate how local food systems can produce healthy food, restore nature, strengthen communities and provide a viable future for farming. 

Together, these two priorities become the living demonstration through which we educate and inspire others. 

Our Method

A living laboratory

The next part of the framework is how we'll do this. We've called it our Living Laboratory. This is perhaps the most distinctive part of our strategy. We're not claiming to have all the answers. Instead, we're creating a place where ideas can be explored, tested and refined in real-world conditions. Where practitioners, researchers, farmers, educators, volunteers and communities can learn alongside one another. Where we generate evidence, share knowledge and help accelerate change far beyond the boundaries of Bore Place.

The challenges we're trying to address are simply too big for any one organisation. So collaboration isn't an optional extra, it's fundamental to how we'll work. 

Organisational resilience

Because if we're going to make a difference over the next twenty-five years, Bore Place itself needs to be resilient. 
Financially.  Operationally. And as an organisation that continues to learn, adapt and thrive.
