An award winning, eco, sustainable, licenced wedding venue nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside on a private 500-acre organic estate. Beautiful gardens, a charming Jacobean manor house as well as a large barn, perfect for parties make it an ideal place for your special day.

About Bore Place

Exclusive Use

Couples getting married at Bore Place have exclusive use of the organic farm and estate from Friday afternoon until Sunday. This gives you the chance to spend time with friends and family before and after the event, as well as allowing you to set up just as you want. The relaxed and special atmosphere of Bore Place is what sets us apart. We actively encourage you to use and decorate the space as you wish and make the day yours. We offer overnight accommodation on-site for 60 with additional capacity for glampers and campers.

Location

Bore Place is a beautiful spot, surrounded by rolling hills, woods full of wildlife, stunning walks and glorious, organically-managed gardens. We are situated just outside the perfectly preserved Tudor village of Chiddingstone, where there is a very pretty church.

We are only an hour from London and a short drive from the M25, as well as being easily accessed by train (nearest stations Penshurst and Sevenoaks).

Sustainability at Bore Place

We are determined to ensure this is an eco-friendly venue, making us an ideal choice for couples looking to hold a sustainable event. For over 40 years sustainability has been central to our ethos. From our early commitment to organic farming to our ambition to reduce our carbon emissions by generating green energy to the way we process our wastewater, Bore Place continues to evolve with a green and environmentally-friendly agenda.

Eco-Venue

If you’re looking for an eco-venue with sustainability at the top of its agenda, you’ve come to the right place. As well as generating our own sustainable energy through a wind turbine and photovoltaic panels, we also heat our buildings and hot water through woodchip harvested on the Bore Place estate.

The gardens and wider estate at Bore Place are buzzing with wildlife. This is because the whole estate is managed organically and because we actively promote wildlife and support protected species through the way we manage our woodlands, hedgerows, ponds and field edges.

We can help you to minimise the impact of your day by recycling and composting all waste. Our chosen catering partners share our values and are also committed to minimising their environmental impact and sourcing food locally and responsibly.

Bore Place has been a centre of sustainability and green living since the 1970s and profits from your day will be ploughed back into projects with these values at their core.

We are proud winner of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance Awards 2024!

Spaces and Accommodation

The House

Bore Place House is an attractive Jacobean house with a large drawing room that can be set up for ceremonies or drinks receptions. With an open fire and doors opening on to the gardens it is a perfect space for entertaining.

There is also a light and airy studio which opens on to the terrace overlooking the walled garden and an ornamental pond which can be used for ceremonies as well.

The house features 12 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms (sleeping 25), a further sitting room, a large eat-in kitchen with Aga and dining hall.

Surrounded by pretty gardens with terraces and ponds, lawns and lovely, well-tended borders, it is full of charm and is an ideal focal point for a weekend of celebrations.

The Barn

A restored 17th-century timber barn which offers a flexible space that can seat up to 100 guests for dinner or hold more for a party or drinks reception. With doors opening up onto the Old Stables Courtyard with pretty festoon lighting, many couples choose to hold their reception here. It can also be used for wedding ceremonies and is an ideal venue for traditional or vintage style events.

The Hide

Tucked away in our pretty, organic gardens The Hide is where most couples looking for an outdoor ceremony choose to get married. With benches handmade from Bore Place oak, seating 100, and a charming shelter for the exchanging of vows, this spot makes an idyllic setting for your ceremony.

Cedar Cottage

A cosy cottage with 2 bedrooms - both with en-suite bathrooms. Also featuring a well-equipped kitchen and cosy sitting room with wood burner. A good place to stay overnight for those keen not to be in the hub of the party or for getting ready ahead of the day. Situated next door to Bore Place House.

The Gardens

The organically-managed gardens at Bore Place are a real highlight of the estate. During the summer months, the gardens are alive with pretty flowers and there is a walled garden enclosing a reflecting ornamental pond which creates a stunning backdrop. Some couples choose to hold their wedding breakfast at tables around the pond. There is a swing hanging from a tree and quiet areas to escape to as well as a large terrace ideal for drinks receptions and a giant lawn perfect for party games. Further afield, there is an apple orchard and abundant market garden from which we source much of our fruit and vegetables. Many guests end their day relaxing with friends around our fire pit!

The Small Barn

The Small Barn is a cosy space often used by the bridal party to get ready. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette and a sitting room with a wood-burner.

The Old Stable

The 19th-century Old Stable has 11 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and can be booked by couples to accommodate more guests overnight. This building is also accessible to wheelchair users and has accessible bedrooms and bathrooms.

Mulberry Cottage

One of our brand new cottages, situated next to Bore Place House with fully accessible accommodation. Sleeping 4/5 with two ensuite bathrooms and a stylish kitchen and living area.

Vegetarians and vegans are well-catered for through our choice of partners. We work together and so vegetables can be sourced from our market garden and beef can be from the Bore Place herd. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about our food partners.

Testimonials

Bore Place is one of those magical places that you would be lucky to stumble upon for your wedding. What a weekend it was! And a large part of how special it was is down to the venue and staff that run Bore Place. Everyone was so impressed with the venue. The grounds are something out of a fairytale; beautiful gardens, flowers, and spectacular pond where we had our drinks reception. A gorgeous lawn where we set up lawn games and bell tents just outside the house. The house and accommodation is the perfect level of nicely done but not too overly perfect, giving a sense of character and history. As we got married in a Church, we used The Hide for some music performed by family members and speeches and this worked a treat. The barn was the ideal canvas for decoration, with the bar set up downstairs it was all perfect. Bore Place give you the option of four caterers - use Home Gurr'own, you will not regret it. Sustainability is important to us and the lengths that Bore Place have gone to in order to reinvest in the land and the local community only makes this place even more worth it.

Ana was a dream to work with in the lead up and Neil, the caretaker, was above and beyond what we expected on the weekend itself. One of the loveliest men we have come across; polite, chatty, and nothing was a problem. When we arrived it felt like Ana and Neil took away all stress that had built up in the lead up to the day. We had forgotten some signage, Ana found us some we could use. We were still to work out a PA system for the speeches, Neil ran a cord and set it up in both the barn and the Hide. We wanted to eat outside on the Friday, the caterers set us up tables and laid out a feast for us.

I cannot stress how good this place is for a wedding venue. We absolutely loved every minute of being there and are already trying to work out how we can come and stay for a family reunion or something when its not being used for a wedding!

Amy & Eddie, July 2024

We honestly can’t thank you and the rest of the team at Bore Place enough for giving us the most perfect day - we loved absolutely every minute of it! We are so grateful that you supported us to make the day so personal and ‘us’, and can’t thank you enough for welcoming all the creativity and quirks we had, including hanging all the mobiles Tilly’s dad made from the barn ceiling! We’re so delighted to hear that you felt it was a fun wedding, we know you see lots of them so it means the world.

Thank you Ana for going above and beyond to ensure we had the best time and everything ran so smoothly. So many of our guests have commented on how beautiful the venue was, and we truly don’t feel we could have found anywhere better to get married! We had a wonderfully, relaxing weekend staying at Bore Place with all our family and friends. We should definitely return for a family reunion or to celebrate one of our anniversary’s in future, that is a brilliant idea and we would love to come back! Bore Place will always be such a special place in our hearts and we will never forget how you and the team hosted and helped us.

Tilly & Jake, August 2024

Bore Place was perfect. We had been looking for a wedding venue for a while, we were a mixed couple: bride who had an Indian heritage and groom who was very definitely not! But we wanted our wedding to be everything from both cultures. When I found Bore Place and its offering of booking over a weekend and plenty of rooms for guests we went to see it straight away; I think the second we pulled into the drive we knew it was the place for us. The location, the setting, it's just stunning. We booked almost immediately!

The thing I loved about Bore Place was that it allowed us to create almost a village-like atmosphere for a few days, people arrived on the Friday and were not leaving till Monday. Everyone was staying onsite, and from the off you could tell that the informal, relaxing atmosphere we had wanted was what the venue gave us. Big open spaces for people to do as they wished, plenty of beautiful indoor space in the main house for people to gather and chat and get to know each other. A fair few people told us "I can't believe you managed to pull this off", but that's down to the venue and its incredible unique offering. We had a catered BBQ on Friday night along with an informal Henna evening to get everyone in the mood for Saturday. For the Indian ceremony, we had a massive capri marquee on the lawn and it was just beautiful. After that, we turned the Barn into a makeshift pub for the evening and I think this might've been my favourite evening - people enjoying food together, having a few drinks - chilled, relaxed, definitely not formal, exactly what we wanted!  The ceremony spaces are all beautiful but I was glad we got to use The Hide outdoors, it's so beautiful. It's small but so cosy, it was wonderful getting married there, you could almost reach and touch every person present. After that, the area around the pond is amazing for the drinks reception and photos. After lunch, it was back in The Barn for Bollywood-themed ceilidh!

Bore Place staff are just incredible. The staff (special shout-outs to Ana and Neil, but also the people we didn't see or meet), they're just so chilled out. You can do what you want, and I loved this about this place. Nothing was too big an ask or they weren't able to accommodate. They made everything easy and stress-free, we just loved everything about the place, the team that runs the events but mostly their attitude. I reckon that if you're wanting super-formal this is not the place for you, if you want chilled out and relaxed then this is the place. I can't think of anything not massively positive to say about this place and this team. I hope many more couples get to experience what we did . We couldn't have asked for a better weekend, we'll never forget it. If you come across Bore Place just book it!

One last thing to say about Bore Place: they're an amazing charity. The work they do with local communities and nature projects is truly inspirational, we always wanted to give our money to a good cause; we definitely found it here.

Prina & Chris, August 2024

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for your time and effort into our wedding on 01/06. It was truly phenomenal! Everything was perfect, and Ana and Neil's help were above and beyond.

Our guests had a fantastic weekend and we loved every minute of it. Ana's help in the lead up to the wedding was much appreciated and actually over the weekend too.

Cecilia & Jonas, June 2024

Dear Ana, What a weekend we had!

The wedding was just amazing – exactly what we were hoping for and more! Thanks again for your amazing help and support through this whole process, we honestly couldn’t be happier.

Nicola & Terry, July 2024

Ana and the Bore Place team were so kind and supportive over our wedding weekend and helped make sure it ran smoothly (especially with a last minute change of plans due to the rain). The venue is so beautiful and we had the best weekend due to the help from Ana and everyone at Bore Place.
