Clay Chicken Sculpture Workshop
Saturday 1st June 10:00am - 4:00pm
Led by artist Clare Summons, who has a degree in ceramics, this is a chance to test your creativity and develop new skills using self-hardening clay. Suitable for all - no experience necessary!
We have the wonderful opportunity to observe some chickens up close. They are unique, intelligent birds with fabulous characters for you to try and capture in your pieces.
You will first explore how to effectively capture shape and character by looking at some of Picasso's artworks as inspiration for creating your clay pieces. You will spend the day creating your own individual ceramic piece inspired by these delightful birds. You will explore basic hand building techniques, beginning with two pinch-pots forming the basic shape to create your piece, giving rise for the opportunity for you to embellish your hen, adding personal characteristic to your piece.
By observing close up, you will be able to explore their characteristics, enabling you to make your own lively and fun ceramic piece of art.
You will be able to leave your chicken to dry at Bore Place or very carefully transport it home whilst still wet. The self-hardening clay does not need to be fired, so your piece will be finished at the end of the day!
Aprons will be provided, or you can bring your own. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit dirty!
A delicious light lunch prepared using ingredients grown on site, and tea/coffee is included in the workshop fee.
Please arrive at 9:30am for tea/coffee, ready for a 10:00am start.
