Immediately following a General Election and as the UK begins to negotiate terms for leaving the European Union, we face many uncertainties. Add to this existing issues: combating climate change, the challenge of feeding an increasing work population, pressure on land use, water resources and habitats and it is clear that we certainly live in interesting times as the Chinese curse would have it.

This one day conference provides an opportunity to discuss some of the practical responses that might be developed, literally, on the ground to these challenges locally in Kent. Sessions will include:

  • Food Security - Dr Howard Lee, Lecturer at Hadlow College
  • Arable Farming: from conventional to regenerative - Claire Eckley, Eckley Farms
  • Pasture for Life - Fidelity Weston, Romstead Farm, Underriver
  • Targeted grass mixes and wildflowers in orchards and polytunnels - Charles Tassell, Farmer and Trustee of Kent Wildlife Trust
  • Food security and self-reliance - Sparky Palmer, Head Chef and Sustainable Food Champion at Bore Place
  • Marketing local food - Vikki Eames, Chegworth Valley and Kent Farmers’ Market Association

This event is organised by Tonbridge and Malling Friends of the Earth in conjunction with Bore Place.
