Discover the world of kefir and fermented beverages in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop. Perfect for anyone curious about gut health and creating delicious probiotic drinks, this session will give you the confidence to start fermenting at home with ease.
As a probiotic and prebiotic, kefir is hard to beat in what it delivers to us in establishing a healthy gut microbiome - the very foundation of our immunity and wellbeing. Kefir is actually very simple to make at home without any need for specialised equipment. You’ll learn the full process of making your own milk kefir, including how to care for, store, and revive your kefir grains (your “mother culture”) - and what to do when they start multiplying. We’ll also explore the hugely popular world of water kefir, showing you how to transform your grains into refreshing, fruit-infused, naturally sparkling drinks packed with probiotics.
The workshop, led by Rachna Jhala, will also open the door to other simple home-fermented foods. You’ll learn how kefir can be used to create cream cheeses, paneer, and other cultured dairy products, providing a foundation for a whole world of homemade goodness.
Alongside practical demonstrations, you’ll get guidance on flavouring your drinks with fruits and herbs, troubleshooting common issues, and building a sustainable fermentation routine at home. Every participant will take home a small amount of kefir grains to begin their own kefir journey straight away.
A perfect workshop for anyone wanting to boost their gut health, cut down on shop-bought ferments, and explore one of the most rewarding areas of home food craft. The workshop will end with a tasting session of Happy Belly fermented dairy products and the opportunity to discuss the cultural history of dairy fermentation.
