Volunteers are so important to the work of Bore Place and form a large part of the onsite team. Our volunteers bring skills, knowledge and energy to make Bore Place a brilliant place to visit or stay, as well as working towards enhancing our natural environment.
There are two regular groups that meet at Bore Place on a Monday and a Friday, and a twice-monthly group that works at Bough Beech nature reserve. If you're into wildlife and looking for a more ad-hoc way to get involved, perhaps you'd like to be one of our Citizen Scientists? Information about all of these groups is below, but don’t be afraid to get in touch if you have a different skillset or specific hard-earned experience that you would like to contribute – we are always open to ideas!
Mondays: Practical conservation at Bore Place
Join our regular Monday group and help us improve habitats and increase wildlife at Bore Place. The land at Bore Place is a rich learning resource for visiting schools and children. Our beautiful 500 acres include woodlands, meadows, hedgerows, ponds and streams so come and learn or share your own knowledge about habitat creation and management in a friendly and informal group. This group undertakes practical, hands-on tasks and meets at 10:00, finishing up around 14:00.

Citizen Scientists at Bore Place - new programme for 2024
We monitor our biodiversity onsite throughout the year, and we are looking for volunteers to help. Citizen science is when the public contributes to scientific research - you could be a species expert, or just someone with an interest. New for 2024 is a series of free training sessions to learn to survey for our six key indicator species in a friendly and relaxed group setting. From there, you can then look to take on regular or ad-hoc voluntary surveys at Bore Place. Our wildlife surveys are varied in their timings and seasonality, so there’s always something different to be taking part in. Fridays: Gardening group at Bore Place
Our garden volunteers meet on a Friday and help with the upkeep of our Education and Community garden which is used by visiting local school children. Work in this garden includes creating vital, colourful habitats for pollinators and birds, as well as making the garden as accessible and inclusive as possible. The garden is having a makeover in 2024, and we're looking for volunteers to help with a variety of projects such as building a fruit cage, creating and planting up raised beds, and helping to maintain the garden.
Bough Beech Practical Conservation Group
Nestled alongside Bore Place is Bough Beech Nature Reserve, which is maintained by a friendly team of volunteers who meet twice a month. Join the team to help keep the reserve as rich, biodiverse and beautiful as possible. The reservoir is a site of great ecological importance and home to some rare species – get hands-on and help us to keep their habitat healthy.
