About Bore Place

Exclusive Use

Couples getting married at Bore Place have exclusive use of the organic farm and estate for 48 hours – either the whole weekend or for 2 days and 2 nights during the week. This gives you the chance to spend time with friends and family before and after the event, as well as allowing you to set up just as you want. The relaxed and special atmosphere of Bore Place is what sets us apart. We actively encourage you to use and decorate the space as you wish and make the day yours. We offer overnight accommodation on-site for 60 with additional capacity for glampers and campers.

Bore Place is a beautiful spot, surrounded by rolling hills, woods full of wildlife, stunning walks and glorious, organically-managed gardens. We are situated just outside the perfectly preserved Tudor village of Chiddingstone, where there is a very pretty church.

We are only an hour from London and a short drive from the M25, as well as being easily accessed by train (nearest stations Penshurst and Sevenoaks).

Sustainability at Bore Place

We are determined to ensure this is an eco-friendly venue, making us an ideal choice for couples looking to hold a sustainable event. For over 40 years sustainability has been central to our ethos. From our early commitment to organic farming to our ambition to reduce our carbon emissions by generating green energy to the way we process our wastewater, Bore Place continues to evolve with a green and environmentally-friendly agenda.

If you’re looking for an eco-venue with sustainability at the top of its agenda, you’ve come to the right place. As well as generating our own sustainable energy through a wind turbine and photovoltaic panels, we also heat our buildings and hot water through woodchip harvested on the Bore Place estate.

The gardens and wider estate at Bore Place are buzzing with wildlife. This is because the whole estate is managed organically and because we actively promote wildlife and support protected species through the way we manage our woodlands, hedgerows, ponds and field edges.

We can help you to minimise the impact of your day by recycling and composting all waste as well as ensuring that if we cater for your day, all the food will be organic and locally-sourced. In fact, most of the vegetables are grown in our own organically-managed market garden.

Bore Place has been a centre of sustainability and green living since the 1970s and profits from your day will be ploughed back into projects with these values at their core.

Spaces and Accommodation

The House

Bore Place House is an attractive Jacobean house with a large drawing room that can be set up for ceremonies or drinks receptions. With an open fire and doors opening on to the gardens it is a perfect space for entertaining.

There is also a light and airy studio which opens on to the terrace overlooking the walled garden and an ornamental pond which can be used for ceremonies as well.

The house features 12 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms (sleeping 25), a further sitting room, a large eat-in kitchen with Aga and dining hall.

Surrounded by pretty gardens with terraces and ponds, lawns and lovely, well-tended borders, it is full of charm and is an ideal focal point for a weekend of celebrations.

The Barn

A restored 17th-century timber barn which offers a flexible space that can seat up to 100 guests for dinner or hold more for a party or drinks reception. With doors opening up onto the Old Stables Courtyard with pretty festoon lighting, many couples choose to hold their reception here. It can also be used for wedding ceremonies and is an ideal venue for traditional or vintage style events.

The Hide

Tucked away in our pretty, organic gardens The Hide is where most couples looking for an outdoor ceremony choose to get married. With benches handmade from Bore Place oak, seating 100, and a charming shelter for the exchanging of vows, this spot makes an idyllic setting for your ceremony.

Cedar Cottage

A cosy cottage with 2 bedrooms - both with en-suite bathrooms. Also featuring a well-equipped kitchen and cosy sitting room with wood burner. A good place to stay overnight for those keen not to be in the hub of the party or for getting ready ahead of the day. Situated next door to Bore Place House.

The Gardens

The organically-managed gardens at Bore Place are a real highlight of the estate. During the summer months, the gardens are alive with pretty flowers and there is a walled garden enclosing a reflecting ornamental pond which creates a stunning backdrop. Some couples choose to hold their wedding breakfast at tables around the pond. There is a swing hanging from a tree and quiet areas to escape to as well as a large terrace ideal for drinks receptions and a giant lawn perfect for party games. Further afield, there is an apple orchard and abundant market garden from which we source much of our fruit and vegetables. You are also very welcome to use the gardens to erect a marquee should you need extra capacity for your guests. Many guests end their day relaxing with friends around our fire pit!

The Small Barn

The Small Barn is a cosy space often used by the bridal party to get ready. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette and a sitting room with a wood-burner.

The Old Stable

The 19th-century Old Stable has 11 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and can be booked by couples to accommodate more guests overnight. This building is also accessible to wheelchair users and has accessible bedrooms and bathrooms.

Mulberry Cottage

One of our brand new cottages, situated next to Bore Place House with fully accessible accommodation. Sleeping 4/5 with two ensuite bathrooms and a stylish kitchen and living area.

Food & Drink

Our kitchen is passionate about simple, sustainable, well-balanced food, using seasonal produce from our organic farm and market gardens and other carefully selected local suppliers. We can tailor your menu to suit your style and to help with your budget and are very happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions. We often cater for vegan and vegetarian weddings.

The Bore Place Kitchen is run by Home Gurrown, who are incredibly experienced at producing first-rate event food and have been operating as an event catering company in Kent for a number of years. They offer amazing flair and creativity.

In addition to a seated meal and canapes, you can also choose a more informal menu: a rotisserie of local organic meats or homemade vegan options, a hog roast with our sumptuous salads, or handmade sourdough pizza cooked to order in our wood-fired pizza oven. Grazing menus can be devised to include sharing platters served on oak boards with seasonal organic salads and vegetables with a selection of bread.

We do not charge corkage at Bore Place. You are welcome to supply your own drinks. We are happy to provide serving staff for your drinks reception for a small extra charge or to run a fully stocked bar for you. We are very flexible.

The venue is stunning and the organisation and help provided by Sue the wedding coordinator and all of the other staff was brilliant. We loved every second of it and would highly recommend Bore Place to anyone.

Hannah and Chris

Richard’s food was really amazing! Many of the guests commented on how delicious it was, and our vegetarian guests said it was the best food they’ve ever eaten at a wedding.

Katie and Alex

Absolutely first class from booking to completion, all backed by great communication and service.

Suzanne and Adrian

Richard’s vegan food was delicious; the breadth and quality of the mains and sides far exceeded our expectations and had a massive impact on our wedding day.

Stuart and Claire

Wedding Coordinator Sue’s support from the moment we first enquired to the day after the wedding itself was incredible, and her relaxed and accommodating approach enabled us to shape the day exactly as we wanted it.

Stuart and Claire

So many of our guests were (unsurprisingly) raving about Bore Place. Such a fantastic place and amazing team. Thanks so much!
