This is an unusual opportunity to look at the Sun, in a completely safe and controlled environment. The Edenbridge and District Astronomers are returning to Bore Place for another popular astronomy event - but this time, you'll be looking at the Sun!
The Sun is our natural source of light and warmth, and our closest and most important star! Whilst it is very dangerous to look at the sun with the naked eye, it is perfectly safe to look at the sun through a hydrogen alfa filtered telescope, so this is a fantastic opportunity to have a look at the Sun like never before! Looking through the solar filter, you'll be able to look for sun spots and flares.
Note: it is very important you do not look at the Sun directly without special equipment.
With the backdrop of the farm, the astronomy team will talk you through the observations and give hints and tips about other key astronomical objects or events you can look out for over the coming months.
The team will be on hand to answer questions and help you find out how to get into astronomy at home.
If cloud, rain or wind prevents practical observation, there will be interesting demos, activities and talks. Children will be occupied by an astronomy themed craft table and books for all ages will be available to browse and buy.
Suitable for all levels, no previous experience necessary. Tea, coffee and squash will be provided.
