5 reasons for a school trip to Bore Place this Autumn

As winter draws on, all sorts of plants and animals are hunkering down in anticipation of the colder weather. Here at Bore Place however, it’s business as usual with plenty going on for schools to get involved with and explore.

I’ve only been here a few weeks but here are some of the highlights that have caught my eye so far:

#1 It’s calving season on the farm with new-borns appearing right up until February. With 105 born already, who knows how many will be here to greet you when you arrive?

Cow and calf

#2 We’re offering 20% off all day visits booked and taken before February half term – the perfect excuse to get a group out of the classroom and into the countryside. A full range of day visits can be found here.

#3 Our wonderful wild habitats are still teeming with life with dragonfly nymphs, water boatmen and hoglice in the ponds and centipedes, millipedes and woodlice lurking ‘neath the logs – perfect for a spot of minibeast study and classification.

#4 We now offer one- and two- night residential stays for schools with a choice of programmes and accommodation options to suit all. It’s the perfect time of year for a star-gazing night walk, campfire or a run around the orienteering course! And if it’s chilly out there, the home-cooked food, hot chocolate and cosy accommodation will ensure everyone stays toasty. You can find out more details here.

#5 Our woodlands are full of beauty and autumn colour at this time of year - a perfect backdrop to shelter-building, orienteering or a ramble around the field trail to spot a Redwing – all potential inspiration for budding poets and storytellers.

All in all, it’s an ideal time of year to connect with nature, so why not leave the hibernating to the hedgehogs and step outside?
