Working Dairy Farm Manager

Hours: Full Time role

Location: Bore Place, Chiddingstone, Kent, TN8 7AR

We are looking for an experienced herd/farm manager in partnership with Burdett Farming Ltd, the organisation that runs the organic dairy farm at Bore Place. The farm has 200 organic autumn calving dairy cows, with a simple self-feed system in winter and paddock grazing on herbal leys in the spring and summer. Bore Place is committed to being a leading example of regenerative farming and this role will be key in delivering this agenda. The farm is integral to the Trust's school and educational programmes, providing an important learning resource for visiting pupils and students.

The Farm Manager will be someone keen to take a step forward in their career, and with a vision for farming regeneratively to achieve the best they can for the wider environment and biodiversity. This role provides opportunities to diversify the farm's operation by working alongside the Trust to develop its Farm Gate offer and other ventures which add value to milk.

Housekeeper and Guest Support Team Member

Hours: 10 - 20 hours a week - contract can suit the successful applicant/s

Salary: £12.20 per hour

Bore Place is looking for two new members to join our friendly housekeeping team. We are looking for capable and efficient people to join us to help with housekeeping, cleaning all our properties, welcoming and looking after guests, food service and some basic food prep. Applicants should be hands-on, flexible with a positive attitude and good team skills, and able to work to high standards regarding cleaning and hygiene.

2 Seasonal paid jobs at Bore Place Organic Market Garden

Season: April - October/mid-November 2024

The Market Garden at Bore Place is 6½ acres (mostly outdoors) and supplies box schemes, a wholefood shop as well as attending a farmers market in London. We grow a wide range of vegetables and do most of the propagating ourselves. During the season you will see and experience sowing, planting crop maintenance and harvesting

The market garden is a medium scale veg growing business. Ideal if you want to make a next step into learning about growing vegetables for wholesale and farmers markets. We harvest to order so you need to be able to work with deadlines and be physically fit. The work can be repetitive, and we work under all weather conditions.

One role is assistant head grower. Seasonal accommodation is available if needed. This role is for someone who can take on responsibility, manage people in the field and has experience in the whole process, growing from seed to product. Hard working and good people skills are essential.  Start date is middle of April. Pay according to experience. I am willing to look into long term engagement/annual employment for the right person, opportunities that can be explored are, setting up your own or a shared business (box scheme, CSA) organising yearly events (small food festivals plus presence on social media). Work in the winter with and for our woodsman here on site to create work during the wintertime. All new initiatives need to fit within the Bore place ethos and new potential partners will need to build a relationship with the Trust.

The other position is for a seasonal worker. You will be involved in propagating, planting, weed control and harvesting, experience in similar market gardens is preferred. The work starts beginning of May and June. Pay according to experience

Sessional Tutors

We are looking for enthusiastic sessional tutors to join our education team, delivering experiential outdoor learning programmes for visiting schools, SEND groups, school holiday programmes and community and visitor groups, on an ad-hoc basis.

The hourly rate is £12.00-£15.28 depending on the role.

Voluntary Opportunities

Volunteer Minibus Driver

We are looking for drivers to get the Bore Place Minibus on the road and help us connect with marginalised and disadvantaged communities. With your help, we can make sure groups who would otherwise miss out can come and enjoy Bore Place and take part in our activities in here.

You must have a clean driving licence and be eligible to drive a minibus (https://www.gov.uk/driving-a-minibus). Training will be provided.

We would love to hear from you if you are able to commit at least two days a month to driving for us.
